"In the light of interesting articles in leading Danish newspapers on food being contaminated by chemicals on conveyor belts, uni-chains would like to emphasise that our plastic modular belts are phthalate free.

Phthalates are typically used as softeners for PVC and certain elastomeres. In the past years, phthalates have been subject to profound investigation and conversation. In a number of countries, their use has among others been  forbidden in toys, screw tops and cling film.
Phthalates are under suspicion of having a disruptive influence on human hormones and of deteriorating the power of reproduction. No one has until this point investigated the risks of phthalates in conveyor belts being able to migrate to the food being transported. 

uni-chains A/S has developed a number of plastic modular belt series, especially for the food industry, with an optimal focus on hygiene and food security. As an important part of this development process, it has been essential for uni-chains only to choose plastic materials which do not contaminate food which is in direct contact with the plastic modular belt. By taking this precaution, we can also secure that all of our materials completely free of phthalates.
